Our Varsity Boys Wrestling team defeated Excelsior Charter at home on Wednesday night. The visiting Eagles found themselves down 16-0 early after Gideon Kim won his 106 pound match by major decision, David Sanchez won his 113 pound match late in the 3rd period due to his opponent being disqualified and Martin Venegas won by forfeit at 120 lbs. Excelsior Charter narrowed the gap to 16-12 when Jake Ceja was defeated at 132 pounds. Both Caleb Jones (138 lbs.) and Steven Ceja (145 lbs.) won by forfeit, as the Eagles struggled to fill those weight classes. Senior Josh Largo earned 6 points for the Grizzlies at 152 pounds by defeating his opponent by pin fall in the 3rd period, which was followed up by Sophomore Carson Norman’s win by pin fall in the 1st period at 160 lbs. Alejandro Valdez suffered a loss to a tough opponent at 220 pounds before Josh Gonzalez ended the night with a bang, as he trailed his opponent 5-0 late in the 3rd period before pulling out a come from behind win by pin. The Grizzlies are now 3-0 in Cross Valley League action and travel to Big Bear for their final league dual on Monday 1/30/17.
