This wrestling season has been an eventful one so far for the Grizzlies, wrestling 4 varsity tournaments and one Frosh/Soph tournament so far. The wrestling team is 2-1 in Cross Valley League competition after Tuesday night’s win over Webb.
This win over Webb was highlighted by Pin falls from Daniel Berumen, Andrew Rangel, Isaac Cardenas, Josh Gonzales and Charles Bernal, along with added points by a decision win from Jake Ceja.
Recently, senior Caleb Jones placed 2nd at 145 lbs at the varsity Juan Enriquez Memorial Tournament held at John Glenn HS. His road to the finals included wins over opponents from Bell, Artesia, Mira Costa, and Downey High School. It was Caleb’s 3rd varsity medal this season.
Sophomore Steven Ceja also medaled recently, taking 1st place at the 160 lb weight class at the Frank Alvarado Frosh/Soph Classic Tournament located at Segerstrom HS. Fellow sophomore Gideon Kim placed 2nd at the same tournament at 120 lbs in the B bracket.
The freshmen and sophomore compete this weekend at Valencia HS (Placencia, Calif.), and the varsity team is back in action against Excelsior Charter HS for the last league dual of the season.
